The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher

The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is sure to keep you engaged for the whole day. This aquarium not only displays all of the fish native to the North Carolina Coast, but also many tropical fish and sharks. The aquarium periodically updates its outside exhibits, with themes such as dinosaurs and butterflies. Tickets are fairly inexpensive, and the aquarium offers a senior citizen and military discount. Oak Island Lighthouse

One of the most visited places on the North Carolina coast is the Oak Island Lighthouse. Built in 1958, this 169-foot lighthouse is a must see when visiting this area of North Carolina. To tour the top of the lighthouse, reservations must be made two weeks in advance, and reservations are accepted year round. Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry

For a relaxing day trip to the Fort Fisher area, the Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry runs year round. For only one dollar per person, you can ride the ferry from the Southport Ferry Terminal to Fort Fisher. If you want to take your car (less than 20′), the cost is five dollars. Not only does the ferry cut the trip time to Fort Fisher in half, but is also an enjoyable and relaxing experience.
